Teach Kids to Dream Big!

Here are 6 "gravy good" benefits of teaching kids to dream big!

  1. Dreaming big can drive direction, ignite desire, and shape behavior. Big dreams give kids something to aim at and accomplish that truly interests and inspire them.

  2. Getting kids to dream big can catalyze conversation and make it easier to talk to kids about establishing smart money habits, including saving, investing and spending choices.

  3. Dreaming big promotes long-term thinking, delayed gratification, goal-setting and planning. It asks kids to contemplate the steps and strategies needed to achieve their dreams and turn them into reality.

  4. Dreaming big aids in enhancing kids problem-solving skills as they seek solutions to solve problems and conquer challenges, they are certain to encounter.

  5. Dreaming big builds confidence and esteem as kids imagine it is possible for them to accomplish difficult tasks and they begin to do so by completing interim steps and milestones on the way to achieving their dreams. And, whether they succeed or fail, if they learn, it is a victory. Dreaming big empowers children to believe in themselves and their abilities to get things done, paving the way for a better and brighter future.

  6. Pursuing and working on big dreams helps kids develop, grit, determination, and resilience as they learn to persevere through obstacles and setbacks.

Have a Dream Big Conversation with Your Child or Students

Here are six questions parents and teachers can ask kids to catalyze conversation on big dreams.

  • What is your big dream or what are your big dreams? Money dream? Career dream? Education dream? Fun dream?

  • What do you want to do when you grow up?

  • If you could do anything in the world, what would you do and want to accomplish? How would you do it? What steps would you take? How much of your time would you dedicate and invest in making your dream come true?

  • What problem(s) do you want to solve?

  • What do you want people, your children and grandchildren to say about you and your life when you are older and maybe retired? Do you want them to perhaps say, you accomplished many dreams?

  • How do you envision turning your big dreams into tangible goals, and what steps can you take today to start working towards them?

Agree? Disagree?
