Krista’s “Did You Know”

Share a fact about dreams you find interesting.
A recent study showed a person becomes 42% more likely to achieve their goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a regular basis.

Backstory

Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Krista Cavalieri. I am a mother, wife, and entrepreneur. After six years in the traditional financial advising community I realized my passion was to help my peers and younger generations. It was through this passion that I founded Evolve Capital. Evolve Capital is a fee-only financial planning firm located in Columbus, Ohio. We serve clients across the country and are a part of the XY Planning Network and National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA).

Education

Share with us a little about your education.
I was raised in Sylmar, California and lived there until I was 13. At 13 my mother was transferred to Ohio. We lived in Hilliard, and I attended Hilliard High School. From there, I attended and graduated from The Ohio State University and graduated with a degree in finance and international business.

Big Dreams Then and Now

What was one of your big dreams as a child and what is one you have now?
The first dream I can remember having was in third grade. My friend, Hanna, had taught me how to draw these fuzzy creatures. I wanted to create a whole fuzzy family and write a little book series about them. I can even remember starting a little booklet and drawing them out. Now, as a mom of two, I dream about things I can do to help empower my little girls and give them the courage they need to live the life they want. I dream of showing them that women are stronger than we give ourselves credit for and dream of being the best example I can be for them.

Reading Then and Now

Share with us one of your favorite reading memories from childhood and one now.
One of my very first and favorite memories of reading as a child was when I was about three or four. Every night after brushing our teeth and before going to bed my mom, brother and I would hop into bed and pull out Goodnight Moon. I loved the simple and sweet story. I loved the way it was written and the subtle way it rhymed. It was, and still is, an amazing children’s book.

From almost the moment they were born, my husband and I have made it a priority to read to our girls. There are many studies that extol the virtues of reading from the earliest ages. What we never expected was how soon our daughter would be able to ‘read’ to us. Each night before bed she would pull out five or six board books for her father and me to read. One night as we were reading Sandra Boynton’s Doggie book, she suddenly started making all the doggie sounds in all the right spots. My heart beamed and my face hurt from smiling. Now she ‘reads’ her favorite books to us and her appetite for reading is insatiable.

Reading is a Great and Life Transforming Habit

Great Leaders Are Readers

Is there one must read personal finance book or blog you recommend? What was your one most important take away from the book or blog?
I Will Teach You To Be Rich is both a book and a blog. Ramit covers quite a lot more than just personal finance but what he really brings to the table is inspiration and drive. He helps people see their potential and helps them have the confidence and tools they need to succeed. Of course, it helps to have some hustle, which he also talks about.

Sammy Rabbit’s 12 Steps to Make Big Dreams Come True

Which of Sammy’s 12 Steps for Making Big Dreams Come True you find most important and why?
Picking just one of Sammy’s steps was harder than I thought!

I chose Sammy Dream Big Step #3 – Have a Written Plan.

Having a written plan has a huge impact on achieving your dreams and goals. One may not think something as simple as writing down your plan could make such a difference, but in fact, it does. A recent study showed a person becomes 42% more likely to achieve their goals and dreams, simply by writing them down on a regular basis. And, ‘The likelihood that you’ll transform your desires into reality goes up even further if you share your written goals with a friend. Writing down goals also helps us to remain consistent, because it strengthens our will and natural tendency is to do what we say we will do. So the next time you have a dream or want to accomplish something, just write it down. You may surprise yourself!

Big Life Lesson Learned

Share with us one of big and memorable lessons you have learned in your life.
I identified education as the avenue and opportunity to help me live a wonderful life. However, it has been determination and a strong work ethic that has largely contributed to getting me to where I am at today.

Tips for Kids

What are a few tips you can give kids and parents about their dreams, careers, college–education, and of course great money habits?
I have three tips for kids that I think will help them with their dreams, education, and careers.

1. Never be afraid to try
2. Always give your best. Work hard.
3. When it comes to money make savings a priority. Put savings before spending!
