Did You See What Marine Veteran Nick Bradfield Did?

by Team Sammy

Nick Bradfield reading Sammy's Big Dream to his son's class

Reading aloud to kids is important, especially about money. Stories are one of the best strategies to communicate and engage young kids on personal finance. They are particularly effective when it comes to what many consider a dull and daunting topic.

Marine veteran, dad, and financial education advocate Nick Bradfield has successfully completed the task twice for his son's classes. He did it first with kindergartners. He provided them with a stirring rendition of It's a Habit, Sammy Rabbit. And this morning, he did it again with first graders at Davis Drive Elementary School. This time he read them Sammy's Big Dream!

Nick followed the reading with a discussion on big dreams and an activity where students were able to write down and draw pictures of a goal they have and how they plan to achieve it.

He also had the added bonus of his mother attend the Dream Big Financial Education experience. According to Nick this made it easier for him to share with students an additional tip, that it is very important to surround yourself with positive people who believe in you.

More from Nick - A Father Son Money Moment

"...A few months passed, and Chance and I kept talking about money. Then something really cool happened.

It was a Saturday morning. Chance was taking a shower, and I heard screams. They weren't screams of pain — something else was happening. I went to the bathroom to see what was going on. To my surprise, as I opened the door, I heard Chance belting out an AC/DC rock version of one Sammy’s signature songs, “S-A-V-E.”

Wow! I was grinning from ear to ear. It was official — not only had I exposed my son to good music at a young age, but he was also thinking about saving money..."

Woohoo!

Way to go Nick! Thank you for your leadership and inspiring all of us!
