Reginald Nelson, Entrepreneur

by Team Sammy

Introducing Reginald Nelson, entrepreneur.

Backstory in his own words

Hi, my name is Reggie Nelson. I live in Concord, NC (just north of Charlotte) with my beautiful wife of 3 years; Latesha Nelson and our amazing sons; Owen - 2 years old and Noah – 6 weeks old. My favorite hobbies are any outdoor activities: walking, basketball, visiting the playground with the family and watching movies! I love movies and smoothies!

Team Sammy: Tell us about what it was like growing up - your family and community?

Reginald: I grew up in Dillon, SC. It's a small town known for “South of the Boarder” that many travelers pass through on their journey to Myrtle Beach, SC. My neighborhood was all family. It was a joy growing up with cousins that turned into friends. There was never a dull moment or empty stomach because we always had something to celebrate!

Team Sammy: What was one of your first money memories?

Reginald: My first money experience was when I was about 4 or 5 years old. My parents bought me a hand operated snow cone machine and I sold small cups of snow cones (more like samples since they were so small haha) to my cousins for maybe a dime or quarter. I saved all my earnings in a glass jar from my mom’s room and I quickly expanded into selling little Debbie cakes, candy and drinks from my kitchen to everyone.

Team Sammy: What was your first saving experience or memory?

Reginald: My first major saving experience was when I was 15. I worked at the flea market with my dad reselling items that we bought in bulk and from auctions. I saved up $800 and bought my first car; a rustic gray 1989 Mazda 626. I obtained my permits and license at 15 and then I had my car. I thought that I was the coolest freshman in high school!

Team Sammy: Did you save in a piggy bank, savings jar, use envelopes or another mechanism? Share a little about it with us. What about your children?
