Northern Santa Barbara County United Way Dream Big with Sammy Rabbit!

by Team Sammy

Update - July 31, 2024

Let’s End Financial Illiteracy

Team Sammy is excited to announce our collaboration with Northern Santa Barbara County United Way (NSBC-UW) to expand access to financial education resources and programs for children and families in the region.

It's truly inspiring to partner with an organization that prioritizes financial stability and places a strong emphasis on early childhood and family financial education, especially for those who need it most.

As NSBC-UW states on its website: "We are Partners in Change, improving people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities... Our community is our dream team!"

Oh Yeh. It Is On!

Sammy Rabbit and author Sam X Renick meet with United Way CEOs Rick London (San Luis Obispo) and Eddie Taylor (Northern Santa Barbara County) to celebrate the launch of early-age financial literacy programs in their communities.

This photo was taken in front of Olga Reed Elementary School in Los Alamos, California, which will serve as the site for the first pilot program.

The goal for Northern Santa Barbara County is to reach, educate, and help open matching savings accounts for 1,000 children over the next three years!

United Way believes the literacy 2.0 effort will change the lives of thousands of individuals and families as we go to scale.

The collaborative strategy combines literacy and financial education and includes the following components:

  • Providing books for children from birth to age 5 through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

  • Offering Sammy Rabbit financial education programs to elementary-age kids.

  • Introducing matched savings incentives to encourage early financial habits.

  • The Ready4K family engagement program provides parents with weekly teaching tips via text messaging, empowering them to help their children develop strong reading and money management habits.

Access and Availability

Both NSBC-UW and Sammy Rabbit are dedicated to expanding access to early-age, youth, and family financial literacy education, with a strong emphasis on reaching underserved populations.

This is crucial because financial literacy at a young age can lay the foundation for lifelong financial stability and success. By focusing on underserved communities, we help close the opportunity gap and empower families to build brighter, more secure futures.
