9 Sammy Rabbit Gold Karat Takeaways from Cameron Huddleston!

(1) "I'm all about being prepared and planning!"

(2) In the 70's, Cameron use to get a "whopping $1" for allowance.

(3) Cameron would save her dollar a week allowance so she could go to KB Toy store in the mall and buy "toy horses." She would "save up" for 8 weeks!!! She still has her collection to this day :-)

(4) Cameron agrees, making a habit of saving money helps us get what we want and need.

(5) Cameron shares her parents never sat her down and taught her the very important lesson of saving for the future. She learned to save for things she wanted, but not for her future. That was a lesson she had to learn on her own.

This is something Cameron would encourage every parent to do - teach their children to save for their future. It is something she is teaching her children.

Cameron goes on to share, "the sooner you start saving, the easier it is to have enough money that you are going to need" for your future.

(6) Cameron and her husband have been talking to their kids and teaching them about money since they were young.

However, she is concerned, and alerts parents, that although you may be talking to and teaching your kids lessons on money, they may understand or not understand the lessons very differently. Sometimes lessons that work on one kid may not work on another child. So parents, be prepared to find alternate approaches to your money lessons when necessary.

Cameron shares she has to continually remind her youngest that his parents ARE NOT AN ENDLESS SUPPLY OF MONEY!

(7) Cameron shared the one money habit she wants to teach her kids and wants all kids to learn is be grateful for what you have!

(8) Cameron thinks school should be teaching personal finance beginning in elementary school! If you can get to kids when they are young with money lessons, the better off they are going to be.

(9) Whether or not schools are teaching kids about money, parents need to do it as well. Parents should not be afraid or embarrassed to talk to their kids about money.

Since many schools do not offer classes on personal finance, Cameron asks, if parents don't teach their children about money, who will?

She encourages all parents to teach their kids about money beginning at an an early age. Cameron says, "set them up for success!"
