University Chancellor Inspires Kids to Read, Dream Big and Save Money

by Team Sammy

Kelly Damphousse became Chancellor of Arkansas State University in July 2017 for one simple reason: he wants to do everything in his power to help the next generation of university students in the Mid-South achieve their academic dreams.

He is doing that and more!

On February 25 Damphousse led students at Valley View Elementary School in Jonesboro, Arkansas in a Dream Big Read Financial Education Experience!

Damphousse read them Sammy’s Big Dream! It was part of a week-long America Saves celebration organized by Economics Arkansas in collaboration with children’s character and financial literacy champion Sammy Rabbit.

The Chancellor is a perfect champion for the campaign and the story about persevering and making good choices to see your dreams come true. He believes in dreams, education, fiscal responsibility and self-reliance.  He has personal knowledge on what it takes to overcome challenges, achieve and re-focus dreams.

He failed at his first dream – a career as a goalie in the NHL.

His college education and degree then became the starting point for a second dream and goal – becoming a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. He succeeded in becoming a becoming a Mountie but was not satisfied.

That led him to his next dream and a career in education that he has been growing since 1994.

Here is to big dreams, great money habits and outstanding leaders like Chancellor Damphousse and Economics Arkansas. Thank you!

The Mission
Have one million kids own, read and experience a Sammy's Big Dream Book by the end of 2020! We want kids to develop great money habits at an early age so they can have better and brighter futures!
