What Kids Will Discover and Learn About

  • It is important to get in the habit of saving money. If we choose to get in the habit of saving money, we will have money when we want and need it. If we choose not to get in the habit of saving money, we may not have money when we want or need it.

  • When we choose to get in the habit of saving money, we can predict and expect our savings and money to grow.

  • Aim and set a goal to make a habit of saving a dime from every dollar we earn and SAMPLE receive

  • It is important to “take action” on what we learn; to “get” at it.

  • “You can do it” attitude and spirit

  • Become more familiar with the language of money, concepts, habits, behavior and actions they can take to have more success with money, particularly around saving.

Today we are going to discuss one of the most important money habits you or anyone can establish – getting in the habit of saving money.

We are going to listen to the song "Get in the Habit" as well as discuss and do activities that share some of the reasons why saving money is a great habit.

So let's get to it!

Read lyrics, listen, and sing song "Get in the Habit!"

Read chorus to the song "Get in the Habit!" Instructor will read lyrics out loud, line by line and have learners repeat out loud. Read the chorus again and incorporate hand signals (choreography.)

See videos:

See lyric sheet with chorus and song video.

First, listen to the chorus (first 24 seconds,) then stop the song. Instructor reads lyrics with learners one more time while practicing choreography. Next, play and sing the song. Instructor and learners should clap during song when chorus is not playing.

10 second Lead in - clap
Chorus - Choreography
Verse - clap

Next, play, listen, and/or sing the song. At instructor's option, learners should clap or move during the song.

Do song activities.

Have learners share.

Ask learners to raise their hands if they would like to share out loud their solutions.

After the answers are revealed, instructor will share out loud the answer and all learners will repeat.

Assign post-experience activties. Activities can be homework or classwork.
