Cartha Tennille, President of Industry Hills Rotary, poses with Sam X Renick and a copy of Sammy's Big Dream
We had the pleasure of presenting to the Industry Hills Chapter of Rotary led by president Cartha Tennille. They meet weekly at noon, on Tuesdays, at the Industry Hills Expo Center. It is a beautiful site with a wonderful view of the entire San Gabriel Valley.
This chapter of Rotary places special emphasis on projects that serve youth and families. Projects include: Annual school backpack program; Annual teacher mini grants; student scholarships and loans program; and an annual Thanksgiving basket program.
We want to reiterate our gratitude to the Club chapter for a Sammyriffic afternoon and a wonderful conversation on kids and money that was highlighted by our one question poll – if you could only teach a young child one money habit or concept on personal finance, what would it be? Below you will find poll results and a visual of our slide presentation.
It was a robust discussion with some insightful questions from members. Here are two of them:
1. How do you teach kids about the risk of inflation and loss of purchasing power over time?
2. What can be done to help parents address peer pressure on children to consume beyond the family’s means?
We welcome your thoughts on these challenges in the comment section below. And, if you would like to address the questions in a blog, contact us for details.
Final thanks and gratitude to Covina Rotary Chapter president Tony Nevarez for generously introducing our work to Rotary Chapters throughout the San Gabriel Valley and International District 5300.
