My Journey
Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur. There was something magical about creating something from nothing—whether it was a new idea or a fresh batch of cupcakes—that filled me with joy.
Baking was more than just a hobby; it was something I genuinely loved. At 15, I transformed that passion into purpose by launching my own business: Gulli’s Confectionaries!
What began in my parents’ kitchen quickly grew into a small operation serving customers across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. I was just a high school sophomore, but I was learning lessons and gaining experience in areas many don’t. From managing costs and setting prices to tracking orders and reinvesting profits, I was learning the fundamentals of financial literacy in real time. Every decision—buying ingredients in bulk, planning delivery routes, managing expenses—helped me understand how money works in the real world.
That business wasn’t just about baking; it became my first real exposure to budgeting, saving, and building something with intention. And those lessons and new skills have followed me far beyond the kitchen.
In 2020, I founded Breaking Barriers Through Education, an initiative that provides English education to underprivileged students in Pakistan. Since then, we’ve partnered with three schools, reached over 300 students, and now serve as the U.S. Faculty of the Mark Grammar School in Khanewal, Pakistan.
Running an international education program demands strategic planning, budgeting, and resource management. Every donation, every dollar, every book—we track and optimize them all. The financial knowledge I first developed through my baking business now helps us make smarter decisions that directly impact students’ lives.
To me, financial literacy is more than understanding money—it’s about using that knowledge to become self-sufficient, empower others, unlock opportunities, transform passions into purposeful projects, and drive lasting, positive change.
I’ve seen firsthand the power of teaching young people how to manage money early on. It can turn a hobby into a business, a dream into a mission—and in my case, cupcakes into classrooms.
